Oral surgery, explained simply

Seven areas of surgical care, described in plain language — so you know what to expect before your consultation.

What Dr. Johnson treats

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Surgery for conditions of the mouth, jaw and face that general dentistry doesn't typically treat — from tooth removal to care after facial accidents.

Dental Implants

A post placed in the jawbone to replace a missing tooth's root. Once healed, your dentist attaches a crown, bridge or denture. See the dental implants page.

Bone Grafting for Implants

When the jaw doesn't have enough bone to hold an implant, a graft rebuilds it first. Your consultation shows whether grafting is part of your plan.

Tooth Extraction

Removal of a tooth that is damaged, infected, decayed or crowding others. We'll talk through replacement options, such as an implant, before you decide.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth often lack room to come in and can become impacted or infected. Removal is done in the office. See the wisdom teeth page.

Dental Infections

Infections of a tooth, the surrounding bone or deeper tissues can worsen quickly. Treatment may include extraction or other surgical care.

Pediatric Oral Surgery

Younger patients sometimes need oral surgery too. We adjust our approach for children and walk parents through the plan.

Working with your dentist

Your general dentist stays part of the plan

Many patients come to us when a procedure needs a surgical specialist. Dr. Johnson works in conjunction with your general dentist to formulate a treatment plan that can meet your functional, as well as your financial, needs.

After your procedure, Dr. Johnson communicates with your general dentist to make sure he or she is aware of everything that was performed — so your care continues smoothly.

How it works

From first call to follow-up

Every case is different, but most patients move through these four steps.

  1. Consultation & imaging

We review your health history and any needed images, and explain your options.

  2. A plan with your dentist

Dr. Johnson coordinates the plan with your general dentist, including your functional and financial needs.

  3. Procedure day

Your surgery is performed in our office, with the anesthesia option that's right for you.

  4. Recovery & follow-up

You go home with written instructions, and your dentist is kept informed of your care.

What anesthesia options are available?

IV general anesthesia is available in our office for appropriate patients. Dr. Johnson spent an additional 18 months training in General Anesthesia and has the experience of over 32,000 cases of IV General Anesthesia in his office. Your surgical team will discuss what is appropriate for your procedure at your consultation.

Will Dr. Johnson talk with my regular dentist?

Yes. Dr. Johnson works in conjunction with your general dentist on your treatment plan and communicates with your dentist so he or she is aware of all procedures performed.

Does my insurance cover oral surgery?

Coverage depends on your plan. Please contact your insurance company to confirm whether this office and your procedure are covered. Our billing team can help with questions at fcomsbilling@gmail.com.

Is financing available?

Four Corners Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is listed as a CareCredit provider, which some patients use to finance treatment. Ask our billing team for details.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring your completed patient forms, a photo ID and insurance card, a list of the medications you take, and any referral paperwork or X-rays from your dentist. If sedation is planned, arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home.
