What to know before you start

30 years of implant experience

Dr. Johnson has placed dental implants for three decades and is trained in both dentistry and medicine.

Bone grafting when it's needed

If the jaw has thinned where a tooth is missing, a bone graft can rebuild it so an implant has a stable foundation.

A plan with your dentist

Dr. Johnson places the implant; your general dentist typically places the final crown, bridge or denture. The two offices plan it together.

The basics

What a dental implant is

A dental implant is a small post placed in the jawbone, where it acts as an artificial tooth root. Once it has healed and integrated with the bone, it can support a crown, bridge or denture — a stable, fixed replacement for a missing tooth.

Many adults with enough healthy jawbone are candidates. A consultation, including an exam and imaging, shows whether an implant is a good fit for you or whether another option makes more sense.

The process

Four steps to a new tooth

Timelines vary from patient to patient; your consultation will give you a general idea.

  1. Consultation & imaging

An exam and imaging show whether an implant — and a bone graft, if needed — is right for you.

  2. Bone grafting, if needed

Where bone has thinned, a graft rebuilds the site before the implant is placed.

  3. Implant placement

The implant post is placed in the jawbone in our office, with anesthesia options discussed beforehand.

  4. Healing & restoration

The implant integrates with the bone, then your dentist attaches the crown, bridge or denture.

Dental implant questions

How long does the implant process take?

It varies. Healing and integration with the bone happen on each patient's own timeline, and a bone graft adds a step. Dr. Johnson will give you a general idea at your consultation.

Will I need a bone graft?

Not everyone does. It depends on how much healthy jawbone you have where the implant is needed, which your exam and imaging will show.

Who places the implant, and who places the tooth?

Dr. Johnson places the implant itself. Your general dentist typically places the final crown, bridge or denture, and the two offices coordinate your plan.

How will I be kept comfortable?

Your surgical team will discuss anesthesia with you before your procedure. IV general anesthesia is available in our office for appropriate patients.

Can I finance my implant treatment?

The practice is listed as a CareCredit provider, and Dr. Johnson works with your dentist on a plan that considers your financial needs. Our billing team can answer questions at fcomsbilling@gmail.com.
